My daughter Anna and I are going to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa, during
the first 2 weeks in June 2008.  Mt. Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa, just
over 19,350 feet high.  She and I are interested in helping ease the crushing burden of
AIDs and war on the children of Africa, but are ill equipped to do much.  So, we thought
using our climb as a fundraiser for two orphanages we know of there would be a
worthwhile venture.

We will be able to visit the “Treasures of Africa” orphanage in Tanzania during our trip. http://www.treasuresofafrica.org This orphanage is in Moshi, Tanzania, and is populated by many children made orphans by the AIDs epidemic in Africa.  Nearly 1 million
children in Tanzania have been orphaned due to AIDs.  The charity that supports this
orphanage is “Hidden with Christ Ministries” based in Tustin, California.  We have no
affiliation with this group, but are supportive of its mission to fund this orphanage in Moshi.

The other orphanage we want to support is St. Bartholomew Orphanage.
http://www.lahash.net/bartholomew This orphanage is in Southern Sudan.  Because the Sudan is still very difficult to get into and very dangerous, we will not be able to visit
this orphanage.  Nevertheless, due to friendships with have made with many of the Lost
Boys of the Sudan who live in our hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, we want to support
this orphanage.  St. Bartholomew orphanage is supported by Lahash International,
based in Portland, OR.  We have no affiliation with this charity either.

We are climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro with Tusker Trials, which supports fundraising climbs like ours.  http://www.tusker.com Tusker’s efforts to support good causes like this are noteworthy.
